With just 18 guestrooms, the intimate Alegre hotel occupies a mid nineteenth century manor house and is set in extensive gardens on a hill overlooking the village of Luso and the Bussaco Forest, a Portuguese national park. Individually furnished with original antiques, the guestrooms all have come equipped with televisions and telephones and offer views of Luso village, the valley, the hotel gardens and the forest.
Guests can lounge by the outdoor pool with a drink from the poolside bar, stroll through the hotel's extensive gardens and relax with a glass of port by the open fire in the evening. Furnished with period antiques, the hotel's restaurant appropriately occupies the building's original dining room where Portuguese specialties are served alongside international dishes accompanied by fine wines and light jazz music. The hotel offers complimentary onsite parking, public Internet connections, room service and informed staff who are available to provide information on local attractions. Hotel guests are ideally located to explore the forest with its 5,000 species of trees. Bairrada, where there are numerous vineyards and wine cellars, is just one kilometer from Luso. Gastro tourists will find Mealhada, well known for its suckling pig, five kilometers away, while golfers can access the nearest course 10 kilometers from the hotel. Further afield, the ancient university city of Coimbra is 25 kilometers away. The nearest airport is Porto, which is 90 kilometers from the hotel. The hotel can arrange a shuttle service to meet guests at Mealhada railway station. The best way to get there from the airport is by taxi.

From the airport, go south following signs for A1 Lisboa or A1 Sul. Follow the A1 for approximately 80 kilometers, then exit for Melahada/Luso/Bussaco/Cantanhede. From central Mealhada, follow signs for Luso. When in Luso, pass the church and the Grande Hotel, and go up the hill to the hotel.
